Possible Causes
Stuck or restricted float switch, Leaking or stuck-open water inlet valve, Blocked drain causing water backup, Faulty main control board water level logic
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker and shut off the dishwasher water supply valve under the sink.
- Check for standing water: Open the door and inspect the tub. If water is present, manually bail it out with a cup and towel.
- Inspect the float and float switch: On GE Café dishwashers, the float is typically integrated in the sump area or side wall. Remove the lower rack and filters. Locate the float dome or sensor area and check for debris, grease, or scale that could prevent proper movement. Clean thoroughly.
- Check the base pan for water: Remove the toe-kick panel. Look into the base pan with a flashlight. If water is present, carefully sponge it out. A leak into the base pan can trigger overfill protection.
- Inspect inlet valve: With water still off, access the inlet valve at the front-left or front-right underside. Check for signs of leakage around the valve and hose connections. If the valve drips when water is turned on (with power off), the valve is stuck open and must be replaced.
- Verify drain function: Confirm the drain hose and air gap are clear (see C1 steps). A blocked drain can cause water to back up and trigger overfill.
- Reset and test: After drying the base pan and clearing issues, restore power and water. Run a short cycle and watch the fill level. If the dishwasher continues to overfill or C2 reappears, the inlet valve or main control board may be defective and should be replaced.
