Possible Causes

Closed or partially closed water supply valve, Clogged inlet screen on water inlet valve, Failed water inlet valve coil, Low household water pressure

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Turn off power at the breaker before accessing internal components. Turn off the water supply valve before disconnecting hoses.

Steps:

  • 1. Confirm water supply: Make sure the shutoff valve (usually under the sink) is fully open. Verify other fixtures in the home have normal pressure.
  • 2. Check fill level: Start a cycle and listen. You should hear the valve open and water entering within 30–60 seconds. If not, cancel the cycle and proceed.
  • 3. Inspect inlet valve screen: Remove the toe-kick panel. Locate the water inlet valve where the supply line connects. Turn off water, disconnect the line, and inspect the small screen for sediment. Clean gently with a brush; do not damage the screen.
  • 4. Verify electrical connection: With power OFF, check the wiring harness at the inlet valve for secure connection and no corrosion.
  • 5. Replace inlet valve if needed: If the valve hums but no water enters, or shows no activity at all when commanded, the valve is likely defective. Replace the water inlet valve assembly following GE Profile–specific part numbers for your model.

If C4 persists after confirming water supply and cleaning the screen, a new inlet valve is usually required. Control board issues are less common but may require a technician.
