Possible Causes
Misaligned door latch, Worn door strike, Failed door latch switch, Bent door or tub frame
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power at the breaker before adjusting the latch or accessing internal wiring.
Steps:
- 1. Check door closure: Close the door firmly and listen for a solid click. If the door feels loose or does not latch, inspect the strike on the cabinet.
- 2. Inspect door strike: Look for bending or misalignment. Adjust the strike position slightly (if slotted) so the latch engages fully.
- 3. Examine latch assembly: Open the door and remove the inner door panel to access the latch. Check for broken plastic parts or loose microswitches.
- 4. Test continuity (advanced): With power OFF, use a multimeter to test the latch switch. It should show continuity when the latch is closed and open when released.
- 5. Replace latch if defective: Install a new GE Profile–compatible door latch assembly if the switch is faulty or the mechanism is worn.
If E1 persists after latch replacement and alignment, the control board input circuit may be faulty and require professional service.
