Possible Causes

Failed heating element, Faulty temperature sensor, Poor water circulation over heater, Control board heater relay failure

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect power at the breaker before accessing heater or wiring. Water and components may be hot.

Steps:

  • 1. Confirm water temperature and fill: Ensure the tub fills to the proper level and incoming water is around 120°F (49°C).
  • 2. Inspect heater: Look for visible damage to the heating element. If your model uses an inline heater on the circulation pump, inspect that assembly for leaks or burn marks.
  • 3. Check circulation: Weak circulation can prevent proper heating. Verify that spray arms rotate and water pressure is strong.
  • 4. Test heater continuity (advanced): With power OFF, disconnect heater leads and measure resistance. An open circuit indicates a failed heater.
  • 5. Replace faulty parts: Replace the heating element or circulation pump/heater assembly as required. Ensure all seals are properly seated.

If E3 persists after heater and sensor checks, the main control board heater relay may be defective and should be replaced by a professional.
