Possible Causes
Blocked pressure tube to level switch, Faulty water level pressure switch, Stuck fill valve, Control board not shutting off fill
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power and close the water supply valve immediately if overfilling is observed.
- Inspect water level components: Locate the pressure switch or level sensor and its small rubber or plastic tube. Remove the tube and blow through it to ensure it is clear. Clean any debris or scale from the tank connection.
- Check fill valve operation: With power off and water supply closed, inspect the inlet valve for signs of sticking or debris. A valve that leaks when de-energized must be replaced.
- Clean internal filters: Remove and clean tank filters and strainers to ensure proper water circulation and level sensing.
- Test after reset: Restore water and power, then run a short cycle while monitoring the fill level. If the machine continues to overfill, the level switch or control board may be faulty.
- Call for service if needed: Overfill conditions can cause leaks and electrical hazards. If cleaning the pressure tube and replacing the inlet valve does not resolve E5, contact a Hobart service technician.
