Possible Causes

Blocked drain filter, Clogged drain hose, Defective drain pump, Blocked sink waste connection

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the dishwasher and turn off water. Expect some residual water when opening filters and hoses.

  • Clean the sump filter: Open the door, remove the lower basket, and twist out the cylindrical filter assembly. Rinse thoroughly under hot water and remove any food debris from the fine mesh and plastic housing.
  • Check pump impeller: With the filter removed, look into the sump for the drain pump cover. Remove the cover (usually a clip or screw) and inspect the impeller for glass, bones, or labels. Carefully remove obstructions.
  • Inspect drain hose: Follow the grey Hoover drain hose from the dishwasher to the sink trap or standpipe. Ensure it is not kinked or crushed. Detach from the sink connection and flush with hot water to clear grease build-up.
  • Check sink spigot: If recently installed to a new sink trap, ensure the blanking plug in the spigot has been removed. Clean any blockage at the spigot.
  • Test the pump: Reassemble, restore power, and start a drain-only or cancel cycle. If the pump hums but does not move water, or is silent, the drain pump is likely faulty and should be replaced.
  • Replacing the pump: Lay the dishwasher on its back (with towels), remove the base panel, disconnect the pump wiring and hose clamp, twist or unclip the pump from the sump, and fit the new Hoover-compatible pump.
