Possible Causes

Failed heating element,Faulty NTC temperature sensor,Loose or burnt heater wiring,Defective relay on control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Isolate power at the breaker and allow the machine to cool.

  • Check if water heats: Run a hot program for 10–15 minutes, then open the door carefully. If the water and interior are cold, the heater is not operating.
  • Access the heater: Many Hotpoint dishwashers use a flow-through heater integrated with the circulation pump, located under the tub. Remove the bottom panel to access.
  • Test the element: Disconnect the heater terminals and measure resistance with a multimeter. A typical value is 20–30 Ω; an open circuit indicates a failed element.
  • Check the NTC sensor: Locate the temperature sensor (NTC) in the sump or heater housing. Measure its resistance at room temperature and compare with specifications; it should change smoothly with temperature.
  • Inspect wiring and connectors: Look for signs of overheating or loose connections at the heater and on the control board.

If the heater or NTC is faulty, replace the affected part. If both test good, the control board heater relay may be defective and should be checked by a technician.
