Possible Causes

Clogged drain filter, Blocked sump or drain hose, Obstructed sink drain or garbage disposer, Faulty drain pump

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power at the breaker before servicing. Water may be dirty; wear gloves.

  • Clean filters: Open the door, remove the lower rack, twist and lift out the cylindrical filter assembly in the bottom. Separate the coarse and fine filters, rinse thoroughly under hot water, and remove any food debris from the stainless sump area.
  • Check pump area: Look into the sump opening for glass, bones, or labels blocking the impeller. Remove obstructions carefully without damaging the impeller.
  • Inspect drain hose: Follow the grey drain hose from the dishwasher to the sink trap or garbage disposer. Ensure it is not kinked. Detach it (place a tray under), and flush with hot water to clear grease or debris.
  • Check sink/disposer: If recently installed, ensure the disposer knockout plug was removed. Clear any blockage in the sink trap.
  • Test drain: Reassemble, restore power, and run a drain or quick program. If i20 persists and you hear only a humming or no sound from the pump, the drain pump may need replacement.

For persistent i20 errors after cleaning, a technician should test the drain pump and pressure sensing system.
