Possible Causes

Leak from circulation pump or hoses, Loose hose clamp on sump, Overfilling due to stuck inlet valve, Faulty anti-flood float switch

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the dishwasher and close the water supply tap immediately to prevent further flooding.

  • Check for visible leaks: Remove the lower kick panel and inspect the base tray for standing water. Use towels or a sponge to remove all water.
  • Reset float switch: Many Ilve dishwashers use a polystyrene float in the base. Once the water is removed, gently move the float to ensure it is not stuck in the raised position.
  • Run a short test: With the base dry, restore power and run a quick cycle while observing the underside (use a torch). Look for drips from the circulation pump, sump gasket, inlet valve, or hoses.
  • Tighten and reseat: Tighten any loose hose clamps and reseat hoses on the sump and side tank. Replace cracked hoses.
  • If water overfills without leaks: The water inlet valve may be stuck open or the pressure switch/level sensor may be faulty. Replace the defective component.
  • Persistent E4: If the float switch itself is damaged or waterlogged, replace the anti-flood float switch assembly.
