Possible Causes

Failed touch control panel, Moisture behind control panel, Loose ribbon cable, Defective UI control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker before opening the door panel.

  • 1. Dry the control area: If steam has been escaping around the door, moisture may have entered the control panel. Allow the dishwasher to sit powered off for several hours to dry, or gently dry with a fan (do not use heat guns).
  • 2. Inspect ribbon cable: Remove the inner door panel to access the user interface board. Check the flat ribbon cable between the UI and main control for secure seating and no visible damage.
  • 3. Clean contacts: If corrosion is present, gently clean contacts with isopropyl alcohol and a soft brush, then reseat.
  • 4. Test button response: Restore power and test each button. If some or all buttons remain unresponsive and E16 persists, the UI panel is likely faulty.
  • 5. Replace UI control panel: Install a new Insignia-compatible touch control panel or UI board, transferring any trim pieces as needed.

If replacing the UI does not resolve E16, the main control board may be at fault and should be checked by a technician.
