Possible Causes
Clogged drain hose, Blocked air gap or sink connection, Obstructed or failed drain pump, Blocked sump filter
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power and avoid contact with sharp edges under the unit.
- 1. Clean filters: Open the door, remove the lower rack, and twist out the coarse and fine filters in the sump. Rinse thoroughly to remove food debris and grease.
- 2. Check drain hose: Follow the gray drain hose from the dishwasher to the sink drain or garbage disposal. Ensure it is not kinked or crushed. Detach it (place a towel or pan underneath) and flush with hot water to clear clogs.
- 3. Inspect air gap (if installed): Remove the air gap cap on the sink and clean any debris blocking the outlet.
- 4. Check drain pump impeller: Remove the lower access panel, locate the drain pump on the sump. Disconnect power leads and hose, then inspect the impeller for glass, seeds, or plastic blocking movement. Remove obstructions.
- 5. Test pump operation: With the dishwasher reassembled, restore power and run a drain or cancel cycle. If the pump hums but does not move water, or is silent, the pump may be failed and should be replaced with a compatible Insignia drain pump.
If E3 persists after clearing all blockages, consider professional service to test the control board and wiring.
