Possible Causes
Failed circulation pump motor, Blocked wash pump impeller, Wiring issue to circulation motor, Defective control board motor relay
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power at the breaker before working under the dishwasher.
- 1. Listen for motor operation: Start a wash cycle and listen. If you hear filling but no strong spraying or motor hum, the circulation pump may not be running.
- 2. Check for obstructions: Remove lower rack and filters. Inspect the sump opening for broken glass, bones, or plastic that could jam the impeller. Remove any debris.
- 3. Access circulation pump: Remove the lower access panel and, if needed, tilt the dishwasher back slightly (support it safely). Locate the circulation pump attached to the sump. Inspect wiring harness and connectors for burns or loose fit.
- 4. Test motor windings: With power off, disconnect the motor leads and measure resistance across the motor terminals. An open circuit indicates a failed motor.
- 5. Replace circulation pump: If the motor is seized or open, remove mounting screws or twist-lock, disconnect hoses, and install a new Insignia-compatible circulation pump assembly. Reassemble and test.
If the pump tests good but E6 persists, the main control board may not be sending power and should be checked by a technician.
