Possible Causes
Failed temperature sensor (NTC), Loose or corroded NTC connector, Damaged wiring harness to sensor, Control board sensing circuit fault
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before accessing internal wiring or sensors.
- 1. Locate the NTC sensor: On many Insignia dishwashers, the temperature sensor is mounted in the sump or side of the tub near the heater. Refer to your model’s layout if available.
- 2. Inspect wiring: Check the connector at the sensor for corrosion, moisture, or looseness. Dry and reseat the connector firmly.
- 3. Test sensor resistance: With the sensor disconnected, measure resistance at room temperature. Typical NTC sensors read in the tens of kilo-ohms at 20–25°C. A reading of 0 Ω (short) or infinite (open) indicates failure.
- 4. Replace faulty sensor: If readings are out of range, remove the retaining clip or nut and install a new Insignia-compatible temperature sensor. Ensure the seal is properly seated to prevent leaks.
- 5. Clear error and test: Restore power and run a hot wash cycle to confirm that E7 does not reappear and that water heats properly.
If the sensor tests good, the control board’s temperature circuit may be defective and should be evaluated by a professional.
