Possible Causes

Stuck or scaled water level float, Failed float switch stuck in closed position, Fill valve mechanically stuck open, Control board fill relay welded closed

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power and close the water supply immediately if overfilling occurs. Mop up any standing water to prevent slip hazards.

  • Inspect float assembly: Open the tank and locate the water level float (often a plastic or stainless cylinder). Lift and lower it by hand. If it binds or sticks, remove scale and debris from the float and guide tube using a descaling solution approved for commercial dishwashers.
  • Test float switch: Disconnect the float switch wiring and test with a multimeter. It should change state (open/closed) as the float moves. Replace the float switch if it remains closed regardless of float position.
  • Check fill valve for mechanical sticking: With water supply off, remove the water inlet solenoid valve. Inspect for mineral buildup or debris preventing full closure. If the valve seat is damaged or heavily scaled, replace the valve.
  • Inspect control board relay: If the fill valve is good and the float switch operates correctly, the control board’s fill relay may be stuck closed. Inspect the board for burn marks or heat damage. Replacement of the control board is typically required.

Do not operate the dishwasher until the overfill condition is resolved, as repeated overfilling can damage heaters, pumps, and electrical components.
