Possible Causes
Clogged drain pump, Blocked drain hose or air gap, Failed drain pump motor, Obstructed sump area
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power and, if possible, bail out standing water with a cup or sponge.
- Check sink drain: Ensure the kitchen sink drains freely. If a garbage disposer is installed, confirm the knockout plug was removed from the dishwasher inlet.
- Inspect drain hose: Remove the hose from the sink drain or disposer and check for clogs. Flush with water to clear debris.
- Clean air gap (if installed): Remove the air gap cap on the sink and clean out any food particles.
- Access drain pump: Remove the lower kick plate and tilt or pull the dishwasher out slightly. Locate the drain pump on the sump. Remove any debris from the pump inlet and impeller area.
- Test pump: With power off, check that the impeller spins freely. If seized, noisy, or open on a resistance test, replace the drain pump.
Note: After clearing blockages, run a rinse cycle to verify proper draining.
