Possible Causes
Shorted heater relay on control board, Shorted heating element to ground, Failed temperature sensor, Stuck high-limit thermostat (rare)
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Immediately turn off power at the breaker and allow the dishwasher to cool completely.
- Inspect for damage: Check inside the tub for signs of melting plastic or scorch marks. Do not use the dishwasher until the fault is corrected.
- Test heater to ground: With power off and wires removed, measure resistance from each heater terminal to ground (tub). Any continuity indicates a shorted element; replace the heating element.
- Check thermistor: Verify the temperature sensor is properly connected and not damaged. Replace if readings are out of spec.
- Control board replacement: If the heater is good but continues to energize when it should be off, the control board heater relay is likely welded closed and the board must be replaced.
Warning: Overheating can cause fire or severe damage. Do not restore power until defective components are replaced.
