Possible Causes
Open tank heating element, Faulty temperature probe (NTC sensor), Defective heating relay on control board, Loose or burned wiring at heater terminals
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect electrical power and allow the machine to cool completely before touching any internal components.
- 1. Confirm symptom: Run a cycle and check if the tank or door feels warm after several minutes. If it remains cold and E3 is displayed, proceed with checks.
- 2. Inspect heater connections: Access the underside of the tank. Locate the immersion heating element or in-line booster heater. Check for loose, corroded, or burned terminals and repair any damaged connectors.
- 3. Test heating element: With power off, disconnect the heater leads and measure resistance with a multimeter. An open circuit (infinite resistance) indicates a failed element that must be replaced.
- 4. Check temperature sensor: Locate the NTC temperature probe in the tank wall or sump. Inspect wiring and connector. Measure resistance at room temperature and compare to Jet Tech specifications; a shorted or open sensor will trigger E3.
- 5. Control board relay: If heater and sensor test good, the heating relay on the main control board may be defective. Visual signs include burned spots or pitted relay contacts.
- When to call a technician: Replacement of the heating element, booster heater, or control board involves high-voltage wiring and should be performed by a qualified service technician.
