Possible Causes
Stuck water inlet valve, Blocked or kinked pressure switch hose, Faulty water level pressure switch, Clogged overflow tube or standpipe
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power and close the water supply valve immediately to prevent flooding.
- 1. Drain excess water: If safe, manually activate a drain cycle or use a container to remove excess water from the tank to below the normal level.
- 2. Inspect pressure hose: Locate the water level pressure switch and its small rubber or plastic hose leading to the sump or side of the tank. Check for kinks, blockages, or splits. Clear any debris and reseat the hose securely.
- 3. Test inlet valve operation: With power restored briefly, observe whether water continues to enter the tank even when the machine is not calling for fill. If water flows with no call, the inlet valve is stuck open and must be replaced.
- 4. Check overflow path: Ensure any overflow tube or standpipe is not blocked by scale or debris, which can cause the level to rise abnormally.
- 5. Evaluate pressure switch: If the hose is clear and the valve is not stuck, the pressure switch may not be signaling the control to stop filling. Testing requires a multimeter and manufacturer resistance/continuity specs.
- When to call a technician: Overfill faults can cause water damage; if you suspect a faulty pressure switch or control board, contact a professional for diagnosis and replacement.
