Possible Causes
Clogged drain hose, Blocked air gap or garbage disposer inlet, Failed drain pump, Obstructed sump or filter
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power at the breaker and turn off water supply.
- Clean filters and sump: Open the door, remove the lower rack, and take out the lower spray arm if needed. Remove and rinse the coarse and fine filters under running water. Check the sump area for glass, food, or debris blocking the drain intake.
- Inspect the drain hose: Access the drain hose under the sink. Detach it from the air gap or garbage disposer (place a towel or pan underneath). Blow through the hose or flush it with water to check for blockages. Straighten any kinks.
- Check the air gap/disposer knockout: If you have an air gap, remove the cap and clean out debris. If the dishwasher was recently installed to a garbage disposer, confirm the disposer’s dishwasher knockout plug was removed.
- Test the drain pump: With the toe-kick removed, locate the drain pump. Check for obstructions in the impeller. If the pump hums but doesn’t move water, or shows open/shorted windings on a multimeter, replace the drain pump.
Restore power and run a drain/cancel cycle to verify proper draining.
