Possible Causes
Open or shorted thermistor, damaged wiring harness to thermistor, failed main control temperature sensing circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Disconnect power at the breaker before accessing internal components.
Access and inspect thermistor:
- The thermistor (temperature sensor) is typically mounted in the sump area near the circulation pump.
- Remove the lower access panel and, if needed, pull the dishwasher out slightly to access the sump.
- Locate the small sensor with two wires; inspect the connector for corrosion or loose fit. Reseat the connector.
Basic checks:
- Visually inspect the harness from the thermistor to the main control for cuts, pinches, or burn marks.
- If you have a multimeter and are qualified to use it, disconnect the sensor and measure resistance; compare to KitchenAid specs (typically around 48kΩ at 77°F, but verify for your model).
- If the sensor is open (infinite resistance) or shorted (near 0Ω), replace it.
If sensor and wiring are good:
- The main control board may not be reading the sensor correctly and may need replacement.
