Possible Causes
Open heating element, failed high-limit thermostat, loose or burnt heater wiring, failed heater relay on main control
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Turn off power at the breaker before accessing the heater.
Visual inspection:
- Remove the lower access panel and inspect the heating element where it passes through the tub bottom.
- Look for breaks, heavy scaling, or burn marks on the element and its terminals.
Check wiring and thermostat:
- Inspect wires to the heater and high-limit thermostat (usually mounted on the tub or heater housing) for burns or loose connections.
- Reseat any loose connectors.
Testing (for qualified users):
- With power off and wires disconnected, test the heater for continuity. An open circuit means the element must be replaced.
- Test the high-limit thermostat for continuity; if open at room temperature, replace it.
If heater and thermostat are good:
- The main control board may not be energizing the heater and may need replacement.
