Possible Causes
Clogged drain pump, blocked drain hose, blocked air gap, failed drain pump motor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Disconnect power before working on the drain system.
Check for simple clogs:
- Remove the bottom rack and filters. Use a sponge or cup to remove standing water.
- Inspect the sump area for food debris, labels, or glass that could block the drain inlet.
Under-sink checks:
- Inspect the air gap (if installed) and clean any debris.
- If recently installed to a garbage disposal, ensure the disposal knockout plug was removed from the dishwasher inlet.
Inspect drain pump and hose:
- Remove the lower access panel and locate the drain pump on the side of the sump.
- Disconnect the hose and check for obstructions. Spin the pump impeller by hand; it should turn freely.
- If the pump hums but does not move water, or the impeller is damaged, replace the drain pump.
