Possible Causes
Clogged drain filter, Blocked drain hose, Clogged garbage disposal knockout, Failed drain pump
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power at the breaker before working inside the dishwasher or under the sink.
- Clean the drain filter: Open the door, remove the lower rack, and twist out the LG fine mesh filter assembly at the bottom. Rinse thoroughly under running water and remove any food debris from the sump area.
- Check for obstructions in sump: Shine a flashlight into the sump opening. Remove any glass, bones, or debris that could block the drain pump impeller.
- Inspect drain hose: Under the sink, verify the drain hose is not kinked. Disconnect it from the sink drain or garbage disposal and blow through it or flush with water to confirm it is clear.
- Garbage disposal knockout: If the dishwasher was recently installed to a new disposal, ensure the knockout plug inside the disposal's dishwasher inlet was removed.
- Test drain pump: Restore power and run a cancel/drain cycle. Listen for the drain pump. If it hums but does not move water, or is silent, the drain pump motor may be seized or burned out and should be replaced.
If OE persists after clearing all blockages, inspect wiring to the drain pump and consider replacing the pump assembly.
