Possible Causes
Open or shorted thermistor, Damaged wiring harness to thermistor, Faulty main control misreading sensor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Disconnect power and turn off the water supply before servicing.
Steps:
- Check water temperature: Run hot water at the kitchen sink for 30–60 seconds before starting the dishwasher. Ensure incoming water is at least 120°F (49°C).
- Access the thermistor: Remove the lower access panel and toe kick. The thermistor (temperature sensor) is typically mounted in the sump or near the circulation pump on Maytag dishwashers.
- Inspect wiring: Check the harness from the thermistor to the main control for damage, pinched wires, or loose connectors. Reseat connectors.
- Test the thermistor: Disconnect the sensor and measure resistance with a multimeter. Compare to the resistance vs. temperature chart in the tech sheet (usually stored behind the toe kick). A reading far out of spec indicates a bad sensor.
- Replace faulty parts: Replace the thermistor if readings are incorrect. If the thermistor tests good but the error persists, the main control board may need replacement.
