Possible Causes
Clogged drain pump, Blocked drain hose, Obstructed air gap or garbage disposer inlet, Failed drain pump motor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Disconnect power before working on the drain system. Water may be hot.
Steps:
- Check sink drain: Run water in the sink and ensure it drains freely. Clear any clogs in the sink or disposer.
- Inspect air gap (if installed): Remove the air gap cap on the sink and clean out debris.
- Check drain hose: Look under the sink and behind the dishwasher for kinks. Disconnect the hose from the disposer or drain and flush it with water to clear blockages.
- Clean drain pump: Remove the lower access panel. Access the drain pump at the bottom of the sump. Disconnect power wires and hose, then remove the pump. Check for glass, bones, or debris in the impeller and housing.
- Test and replace pump: If the pump hums but does not turn, or windings test open, replace the drain pump with the correct Maytag part.
