Possible Causes
Mechanical binding in wash pump, Excessive scale buildup on impeller, Low water level causing cavitation, Faulty motor overload relay
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Isolate electrical power and allow the machine to cool before touching the pump or motor.
- Check water level: Ensure the wash tank fills to the correct level. Low level can cause cavitation and overload. Correct any fill issues first.
- Inspect pump for binding: Access the wash pump and remove the volute cover. Check the impeller for scale, debris, or damage. Clean thoroughly and ensure it spins freely.
- Descale pump components: Heavy limescale on the impeller and volute can increase load. Soak removable parts in a suitable descaling solution, following Meiko’s chemical guidelines.
- Check overload relay: Locate the motor overload device in the control cabinet. Verify that its setting matches the motor’s rated current. Reset if tripped and replace if it trips at normal load.
- Measure running current: With a clamp meter, measure motor current during operation. If current remains high despite mechanical cleaning, the motor windings may be failing and the pump assembly should be replaced.
