Possible Causes
Leak around heater or sump, Overheated heater due to low water level, Faulty temperature limiter, Damaged heater wiring
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect mains power and close the water tap. Tilt the dishwasher only when you are prepared for possible water spillage.
- Check for leaks: Gently pull the dishwasher out and inspect underneath for water traces, rust marks, or limescale around the heater and sump area.
- Inspect heater connections: Remove the bottom panel and check the heater terminals and wiring for signs of overheating or burning.
- Dry the base: If water is present in the base tray, carefully sponge it out and allow the area to dry completely. Identify and correct the source of the leak (e.g., door seal, sump gasket, hose clamp).
- Reset by test cycle: After drying and fixing any leaks, restore power and run a short cycle to see if E9 reappears.
- If E9 persists: The heater or its safety thermostat may be damaged and should be tested with a multimeter and replaced if faulty.
