Possible Causes

Clogged drain filter in sump, Blocked drain hose, Blocked sink trap connection, Defective drain pump impeller

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power at the breaker and avoid contact with sharp edges inside the sump.

  • Clean the filters: Open the door, remove the lower rack, twist and lift out the coarse and fine filters in the bottom. Rinse under warm water and remove food debris.
  • Check the sump area: With filters removed, inspect the sump for glass, bones, or labels. Carefully remove any obstruction around the drain pump inlet.
  • Inspect the drain hose: Pull the dishwasher forward, check the Sharp drain hose for kinks or crushing. Detach it from the sink trap and blow through it or flush with water to confirm it is clear.
  • Check sink connection: If recently installed to a new garbage disposal, ensure the knockout plug was removed from the disposal inlet.
  • Test the drain pump: Restore power and run a cancel/drain function. If the pump hums but does not move water, the drain pump may have a damaged impeller and should be replaced.
