Possible Causes
Leak from circulation pump seal, Loose hose clamp on sump or heater, Cracked plastic sump, Over-foaming from incorrect detergent
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power and turn off the water supply. Be prepared for water spillage when tilting the appliance.
- Check for visible leaks: Look around the front kick plate and sides for signs of water. If safe, pull the dishwasher out from the cabinet.
- Drain the base tray: Carefully tilt the dishwasher about 45° backward to allow water in the base tray to drain out onto towels. This may temporarily clear the E4 error.
- Inspect internal hoses and sump: Remove the side panels or base cover (depending on model) and inspect the Sharp sump assembly, circulation pump, and heater connections for drips or mineral tracks.
- Check detergent use: Ensure you are using dishwasher tablets or powder only, not hand-washing liquid. Over-foaming can cause water to spill into the base.
- Permanent repair: Tighten any loose hose clamps, replace cracked hoses, or replace a leaking circulation pump or sump. If the leak source is not obvious, contact a Sharp-authorized technician.
