Possible Causes
Failed circulation pump motor, Blocked impeller in circulation pump, Seized motor bearings, Faulty motor capacitor (if fitted)
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power and turn off water before pulling the dishwasher out.
- Confirm poor circulation: Start a cycle, listen for the wash motor. If you only hear filling and then a low hum or nothing, the circulation pump may be faulty.
- Check for blockages: Remove filters and inspect the sump for foreign objects that could jam the impeller. Some Sharp models allow limited access to the impeller from inside the tub.
- Access the pump: Lay the dishwasher on its back and remove the base cover. Locate the circulation pump attached to the sump assembly.
- Inspect and rotate impeller: Disconnect the pump and check if the impeller turns freely by hand. If seized or very stiff, the pump must be replaced.
- Replacement: Install a new Sharp circulation pump/wash motor assembly, ensuring all seals and clamps are correctly fitted to prevent leaks.
