Dishwasher shows E21; circulation pump runs loudly or not at all.

Safety first: Disconnect power and remove as much water as possible from the tub.

E21 is closely related to E20 and often indicates a blockage or overload condition.

• Step 1 – Clean filters and sump:
  • Remove and clean the filter assembly.
  • Check the sump for broken glass or debris.
• Step 2 – Access pump from below:
  • Remove the base cover.
  • Locate the circulation pump and inspect the inlet and outlet hoses for blockages.
• Step 3 – Impeller inspection:
  • Open the pump housing if possible.
  • Remove any foreign objects from the impeller area.
• Step 4 – Test run:
  • After clearing blockages, reassemble and run a short cycle.
  • If E21 returns and the pump is noisy or overheats, replace the pump assembly.

Do not ignore grinding or rattling noises from the pump; they usually indicate internal damage.
