Possible Causes
Defective softener regeneration valve, Blocked brine line, Faulty softener sensor, Control board not driving valve
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before accessing internal components.
- Check salt level: Ensure the salt reservoir in the base of the tub is filled with dishwasher salt and the cap is properly sealed.
- Inspect for salt bridging: Use a non-metallic utensil to gently break up any hardened salt bridge inside the reservoir.
- Access softener valve: Remove the side panel to locate the water softener body and regeneration valve. Check the wiring connector and look for salt corrosion.
- Clean brine line: If accessible, flush the small hose between the salt reservoir and softener body to clear blockages.
- Replace valve if needed: If the valve coil is open circuit or physically damaged, replace the regeneration valve with an OEM SMEG part.
