Possible Causes
Blocked pressure chamber or air trap, Faulty pressure switch, Kinked or blocked pressure hose, Control board misreading level signal
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power and close the water supply before removing panels.
- Access pressure system: On many SMEG dishwashers, the pressure switch and air trap are located on the side of the tub or near the sump. Remove the side panel to access them.
- Clean air trap and hose: Detach the small rubber hose from the pressure switch and the air chamber. Blow gently through the hose to ensure it is clear. Remove the air trap (if accessible) and rinse out grease and limescale.
- Check pressure switch: Inspect the switch for water ingress or corrosion at the terminals. With a multimeter, verify that the contacts change state when you gently blow into the pressure port (do not over-pressurize).
- Re-seat connections: Refit the hose securely and ensure there are no kinks. Reconnect the wiring harness firmly to the pressure switch.
- Test operation: Run a short cycle and observe the fill level. If E5 persists and the water level is clearly incorrect, the pressure switch or control board may need replacement.
