Possible Causes
Dirty or scaled turbidity sensor window, Faulty turbidity sensor, Loose or corroded sensor connector, Wiring harness damage
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect mains power before removing panels or sensors.
- Locate turbidity sensor: On many SMEG dishwashers, the turbidity (optical) sensor is mounted on the side of the sump or tub, often as a small plastic module with a wiring connector.
- Clean sensor window: Remove the sensor according to the service instructions (usually a twist-lock). Clean the optical window with warm soapy water and a soft cloth to remove grease and limescale. Do not scratch the lens.
- Inspect wiring: Check the connector for corrosion or moisture. Ensure the harness is not pinched or damaged where it passes along the base.
- Reinstall and test: Refit the sensor securely, restore power, and run a cycle. If E7 returns, the sensor itself may be defective and should be replaced with a compatible SMEG part.
- Board diagnosis: If a new sensor does not resolve the error, the main control board may not be reading the sensor correctly and may require professional diagnosis.
