Possible Causes
Failed heat pump motor-heater unit, Faulty integrated NTC sensor, Wiring fault to heat pump, Control board heater drive failure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the dishwasher and close the water supply. The heat pump carries mains voltage and hot water.
- Confirm symptoms: Check if water remains cold and if spray pressure is weak. E9 combined with no heat strongly suggests a heat pump issue.
- Access heat pump: Lay the dishwasher on its back and remove the base panel. The heat pump is a large assembly connected to the sump and hoses.
- Inspect for leaks or burning: Look for water traces around the pump, burnt connectors, or melted plastic. Any such signs indicate replacement is required.
- Electrical tests: With a multimeter (and power disconnected), measure resistance of the heater portion and motor windings according to SMEG specifications. Open circuits or shorts indicate failure.
- Replace assembly: If faulty, replace the entire heat pump assembly with the correct SMEG part. Transfer any seals or brackets as needed and ensure all hose clamps are tight to prevent leaks.
