Possible Causes

Mechanically stuck water inlet valve, Debris lodged in valve seat, Faulty control board keeping valve energized, Incorrect water pressure causing valve not to close fully

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Immediately turn off the water supply and disconnect power to prevent flooding.

  • Confirm valve behavior: With power disconnected and water supply turned on briefly, check if water still flows into the dishwasher. If so, the water inlet valve is stuck open.
  • Inspect and replace valve: Remove the lower kick plate, disconnect the inlet hose and wiring, and remove the valve. Inspect for debris in the valve seat; replacement is usually more reliable than cleaning.
  • Check control board output: If water only flows when power is on, test the voltage at the valve terminals during standby. If voltage is present when it should be off, the main control board relay is faulty and must be replaced.
  • Verify water pressure: Ensure household water pressure is within Summit's recommended range; excessively high pressure can prevent proper valve closure.
