Possible Causes
Clogged drain pump impeller, Blocked drain hose or air gap, Failed drain pump motor, Blocked sump filter or check valve
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power. Water in the tub may be hot; use gloves.
- Clean filters: Remove the lower rack and take out the coarse and fine filters from the sump. Rinse thoroughly to remove food debris.
- Check for obstructions: Access the drain pump through the sump opening or from underneath (depending on model). Feel for broken glass, bones, or other debris in the impeller area. Remove obstructions carefully.
- Inspect drain hose: Follow the drain hose from the dishwasher to the sink drain or garbage disposer. Ensure it is not kinked. Disconnect at the sink end and flush with water to clear blockages.
- Air gap (if installed): If your Summit dishwasher is connected via an air gap on the sink, remove the cap and clean out any buildup.
- Test drain pump: With power off, disconnect the pump wiring and test for continuity. If the motor is open or seized, replace the drain pump assembly.
- Run a drain test: Reassemble, restore power, and run a cancel/drain function or quick cycle to verify proper draining and that E5 does not return.
