Possible Causes
Clogged drain filter in sump, Blocked drain hose or sink trap connection, Foreign object jammed in drain pump impeller, Defective drain pump motor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the dishwasher and turn off the water supply. Expect residual water in the sump when opening filters.
- Clean filters: Open the door, remove the lower basket, and twist out the coarse and fine filters in the sump. Rinse thoroughly under warm water and remove any food debris or glass.
- Check sump area: Shine a torch into the sump and remove any foreign objects (bones, glass, labels) that could block the pump inlet.
- Inspect drain hose: Pull the dishwasher out slightly and check that the drain hose is not kinked or crushed. Detach it from the sink trap or garbage disposer and flush it with water to clear blockages.
- Check sink connection: If recently installed to a garbage disposer, ensure the knockout plug in the disposer inlet was removed.
- Access drain pump: Lay the machine carefully on its back (protect the floor), remove the bottom access panel, and locate the drain pump on the side of the sump. Remove the pump cover and check for debris in the impeller. Rotate the impeller by hand; it should move freely.
- Electrical test: With power disconnected, check the pump wiring connector. If the pump coil is open or the pump is noisy and not turning during operation, replace the drain pump assembly.
