Possible Causes
Faulty diverter valve motor, Jammed diverter disc, Wiring issue to diverter, Control board diverter drive fault
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before accessing the underside of the dishwasher.
Step-by-step checks:
- Check spray performance: Run a cycle and open the door mid-wash (after pausing). Confirm whether water is reaching both upper and lower spray arms over time.
- Inspect spray arms: Ensure spray arm jets are not clogged and arms spin freely; clean as needed.
- Access diverter: From the bottom, locate the diverter valve attached to the circulation pump or sump. Check for leaks, cracks, or obvious damage.
- Wiring and connector: Inspect the diverter motor connector for corrosion or looseness.
- Reset and test: Restore power and run a diagnostic or normal cycle. If E8 persists, the diverter motor or control board may require replacement.
Warning: Do not force the diverter disc by hand; this can strip gears and worsen the fault.
