Possible Causes

Heating element (flow-through heater) open circuit, Temperature sensor (NTC) defective, Wiring to heater burned or loose, Control board heater relay failure

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power at the breaker. The heater operates at mains voltage and can be dangerous.

  • Confirm symptom: Run a hot program and open the door after 15–20 minutes (carefully). If the water is cold and E5 appears, the heater circuit is likely faulty.
  • Check supply temperature: If your V-ZUG dishwasher is connected to cold water only, this is normal; the machine must heat. If connected to hot water, ensure the hot supply is actually hot.
  • Visual inspection: Remove the toe-kick and side panel (if accessible) and visually inspect the heater assembly and wiring for burn marks or loose connectors. Do not touch any capacitors or live parts.
  • User-level reset: Turn the appliance off for 5 minutes, then restart a program. If E5 reappears quickly, the heater or NTC likely needs replacement.
  • Professional repair: Measuring heater resistance and replacing the flow-through heater or NTC sensor is a technician-level task. Contact V-ZUG service.
