Possible Causes

Clogged drain pump impeller, Blocked drain hose, Blocked sump filter, Defective drain pump motor

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power and turn off water. Expect residual water in the sump.

Step-by-step checks:

  • Clean filters: Open the door, remove the lower rack, twist and lift out the coarse and fine filters in the sump. Rinse thoroughly and remove food debris.
  • Check pump area: With filters removed, look into the sump for glass, bones, or labels obstructing the drain pump inlet. Carefully remove any foreign objects.
  • Inspect drain hose: Check under the sink where the hose connects to the sink trap or garbage disposal. Remove the hose and flush it with water to clear grease or food blockages. Ensure there are no kinks and that the hose rises in a high loop to prevent backflow.
  • Test drain pump (Vestel drain pump assembly): Access the bottom of the dishwasher (tilt the unit carefully after removing base panel). Locate the drain pump, check for burnt smell or signs of overheating. Spin the impeller with a finger or screwdriver; it should turn freely. Measure coil resistance; an open or shorted coil means the pump must be replaced.

Reassemble, restore power, and run a short cycle to confirm proper draining.
