Possible Causes
Failed Viking flow-through heater or base heater element, Faulty high-limit thermostat or thermal cutoff, Defective temperature sensor (NTC), Wiring issue between control board and heater circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power at the breaker. Heating components can retain heat; allow the unit to cool before servicing.
- Run a hot water test: At the kitchen sink, run hot water until it is very hot. Start a cycle and let the dishwasher fill. Pause after 10–15 minutes and open the door carefully. If the water is still lukewarm, the heater is likely not operating.
- Access heater assembly: Remove the toe-kick panel. Many Viking dishwashers use a flow-through heater mounted in the base or in-line with the circulation pump. Visually inspect for burned connectors or discoloration.
- Check heater continuity: Disconnect the heater wiring. Use a multimeter to measure resistance across the heater terminals. Infinite resistance indicates a failed heater that must be replaced.
- Inspect high-limit thermostat and NTC sensor: Locate the high-limit thermostat on the tub or heater housing. Test for continuity at room temperature; an open thermostat must be replaced. For the NTC sensor, compare resistance to Viking service specs; a shorted or open sensor will cause E03.
- Examine wiring harness: Look for melted connectors or damaged wires between the control board and heater/thermostat. Repair or replace any compromised wiring.
- Replace faulty components: Install a new Viking heater assembly or thermostat as needed, ensuring all seals and clamps are properly seated to prevent leaks.
