Possible Causes
Failed thermistor (NTC sensor), Open or shorted temperature sensor wiring, Incoming water temperature excessively high
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Turn off power and shut off the water supply before accessing internal components.
- Check incoming water temperature: Run hot water at the kitchen sink and measure with a thermometer. Whirlpool recommends around 120°F (49°C). If above 140°F (60°C), lower your water heater setting.
- Inspect sensor wiring: Remove the toe-kick panel and access the sump area. The temperature sensor is usually mounted in the sump or integrated with the OWI/turbidity sensor. Check the harness for damage or loose connections.
- Reset power: After correcting water temperature, turn off power for 5 minutes, then restore and run a test cycle.
- Replace sensor: If the code returns, replace the temperature sensor (or OWI assembly if combined) with the correct Whirlpool part.
