Possible Causes

Failed circulation pump motor, Blocked pump impeller, Clogged sump filter, Low voltage to motor

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety First: Turn off power and water supply before accessing the pump.

  • Check for obvious blockages: Remove the lower rack and spray arm. Take out the filter assembly and inspect the sump for broken glass, bones, or debris blocking the impeller.
  • Clean filters: Rinse the fine and coarse filters under running water and reinstall correctly.
  • Listen to the motor: Restore power briefly and start a cycle. If you hear only a faint hum and no strong water spray, the circulation pump may be seized or failed.
  • Access circulation pump: Remove the dishwasher from under the counter if needed. From the bottom, locate the circulation pump/motor assembly attached to the sump. Check for leaks or burn marks.
  • Replace pump: If the impeller is free of debris but the motor will not run or is noisy, replace the circulation pump assembly with the correct Whirlpool part.
