Possible Causes
Clogged drain hose, Blocked air gap or garbage disposer inlet, Failed drain pump, Obstruction in pump housing
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Turn off power before working on the drain system. Expect some water spillage.
- Check sink drain: Run water in the sink and ensure it drains freely. If a garbage disposer is installed, make sure the knockout plug was removed when the dishwasher was connected.
- Inspect air gap (if present): Remove the air gap cap on the sink and clean out any debris.
- Clean filters and sump: Remove the lower rack and filters. Check for food, glass, or labels blocking the sump or drain inlet.
- Check drain hose: Under the sink, disconnect the dishwasher drain hose and blow through it or flush with water to confirm it is clear.
- Test drain pump: Access the pump from underneath. Check for obstructions in the impeller. If the pump hums but does not move water, or is silent and has proper voltage, replace the drain pump.
