Possible Causes
Blocked sump filter, Blocked or kinked drain hose, Clogged air gap or sink trap connection, Defective Zanussi drain pump
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power to the dishwasher at the plug or breaker. Be prepared for some water spillage when working on the filters and hoses.
- Clean filters: Open the door, remove the lower basket and take out the coarse and fine filters from the sump. Rinse thoroughly under hot water and remove food debris and grease.
- Check sump area: Look into the sump where the filters sit. Remove any glass, bones, labels or foreign objects that could obstruct the impeller.
- Inspect drain hose: Follow the drain hose from the dishwasher to the sink trap or waste connection. Straighten any kinks and ensure the hose is not crushed behind the cabinet. Detach the hose and flush it through with hot water if blocked.
- Check sink trap/air gap: If the hose connects to a spigot on the sink trap, remove the spigot and clear any grease or food build‑up. Ensure any knockout plug in a new trap has been removed.
- Test drain: Reassemble, restore power and run a drain or short program. If you hear the pump but no water exits, the pump or non‑return valve may be blocked or faulty and may need to be removed and cleaned or replaced.
