Possible Causes
Failed heating element, Faulty temperature sensor (NTC), Loose or burnt wiring at heater terminals, Defective main control board heater relay
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker. The heater and wiring can be live and hot.
- Confirm water supply temperature: Run hot water at the kitchen sink until it is hot. Zline dishwashers perform best with 120°F (49°C) inlet water.
- Inspect heating element: Access the bottom of the tub (inside) and visually inspect the exposed heater (if present) or the concealed base heater for cracks, burn marks, or warping.
- Check wiring connections: Remove the lower front panel and locate the heater terminals. Look for loose spade connectors, discoloration, or melted insulation. Tighten or replace connectors as needed.
- Test heater resistance: With power off, disconnect heater leads and measure resistance with a multimeter. An open circuit (infinite resistance) indicates a failed element that must be replaced.
- Evaluate temperature sensor: If the heater tests good, locate the NTC sensor (usually in the sump area). Check for secure connection and visible damage. Replace if out of spec per service manual values.
