Possible Causes
Failed heater relay on control board, Shorted heating element, Open heating element, Loose heater wiring
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the dryer before accessing the heater or control. For gas dryers, shut off gas supply.
- Inspect heater wiring: Remove the rear panel and locate the heater housing. Check all wires for tight connections and signs of overheating.
- Test heating element (electric models): Disconnect the element leads and measure resistance. An open reading indicates a failed element; a very low reading may indicate a short to ground. Replace as needed.
- Check for ground faults: With one meter lead on the element terminal and the other on the metal housing, verify there is no continuity. Continuity indicates a shorted element.
- Control relay: If the element and wiring are good, the heater relay on the main control may be faulty and the board may require replacement.
