Possible Causes

Failed drive motor, Open motor winding, Loose motor harness connection, Defective motor relay on control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the dryer and, for gas models, shut off gas before servicing. Moving parts and sharp edges are present.

  • Check drum movement: With the dryer unplugged, open the door and try to rotate the drum by hand. It should turn smoothly. If seized, inspect for jammed objects or failed drum support components.
  • Inspect motor wiring: Remove the front or rear panel to access the drive motor. Check the harness connector for tightness and signs of overheating.
  • Test the motor: Use a multimeter to check continuity of the motor windings per Amana specifications. Replace the motor if windings are open or shorted.
  • Control relay check: If the motor tests good, the motor relay on the main control may be defective and the board may need replacement.
