Possible Causes
Worn drum support rollers, Dry or worn idler pulley bearing, Worn front drum felt seal, Foreign object trapped at drum edge
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before disassembling the cabinet. Sharp edges inside the dryer can cause cuts; wear gloves.
- Identify noise location: Run the dryer briefly with the top cover removed (if safe to do so) to localize the noise to the front, rear, or bottom area. Then unplug before proceeding.
- Inspect drum rollers: Remove the front panel and drum to access the rear drum support rollers. Spin each roller by hand; they should rotate smoothly and quietly. Replace any that are noisy, stiff, or wobbling.
- Check idler pulley: Inspect the idler pulley near the motor. Spin it by hand; if it squeals or feels rough, replace it.
- Examine front felt seal: Check the felt seal around the front of the drum for wear or displacement. A damaged seal can cause metal-on-metal scraping.
- Remove foreign objects: Look for coins, bra wires, or other objects caught between the drum and front or rear bulkhead. Remove carefully.
- Reassemble and test: After replacing worn parts, reassemble the dryer and run a test cycle to confirm the noise is gone.
